Leah Jurkovic, President CEC

Leah has over 25 years of experience working at the intersection of communications, organizational change, and cultural transformation. As a former executive at Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), Leah led both the communications and human resources departments, responsible for CICan’s engaging public positioning as well as its employee-focused culture and innovative internal practices.

Leah’s approach to internal and external transformation relies on engaging teams and leaders in putting sustainable best practices to work for the organization. Leah has revitalized the public face of organizations, re-branding and leading the strategic development and launch of all corporate communications, advocacy products, and online tools. From complex communications, including web and social media, to broader strategic plans and Board of Directors engagement, Leah has led many a team to embrace change and have an impact.

Leah has also been a faculty member for leadership development, led communications training for many organizations, and is a proud coach and mentor.

Leah has worked for a number of national organizations, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) as Assistant Scientific Director for the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research and in a number of Knowledge Translation roles supporting the use of evidence in policy and practice. She also worked for the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), UNICEF, and Nutrition International (formerly Micronutrient Initiative).

Leah holds a Master’s degree in cognitive studies and an undergraduate degree with joint concentration in biology and philosophy. She is on the Board of Directors for Volunteer Ottawa and spends a lot of time volunteering with Dress for Success Ottawa and Sit With Me rescue.
